Principal: Don Hardie
Happy to be a Saluda Tiger!

Mr. Don Hardie is an experienced and accomplished South Carolina educator of 18 years. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1995, a MEd in Secondary Mathematics and a MEd in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina in 2003 and 2005 respectively.

He began his educational career at Airport High School in Lexington County School District Two, where he coached basketball and baseball. He became Nationally Board Certified in 2003 in Adolescence and Young Adulthood Mathematics and a certified teacher in AP Calculus in 2004. After teaching mathematics for five years, he became an administrative assistant at Airport High School. In 2005, he served as the assistant principal at Busbee Middle School in Lexington County School District Two.  Following the 2007 school year he served as the Mathematics Coordinator for District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties. In 2010, he was named principal at the Academy for Success of District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties.

During Mr. Hardie’s tenure at the Academy for Success, he led many successful initiatives and programs including, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), one-to-one mobile technology, data team implementation, and early graduation programs. The Academy for Success experienced a decrease in suspension days, expulsions, and drop outs during his tenure. The Academy for Success was considered as one of the top Alternative Schools in the state and Mr. Hardie was named President of the State Alternative Schools Round Table.

He is married to Suzy Hardie that currently teaches master level administration courses at the University of South Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Hardie have an energetic daughter named Joy that enjoys ballet and was recently named a Duke Tip Scholar.


“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the community of Saluda as principal at the middle school,” Mr. Hardie said. Mr. Hardie is going on his second year as the middle school principal.

    Khan Academy provides free tutorials for thousands of school topics, especially helpful for math. There is a video provided for each topic. Bill Gates' children use the site to teach themselves mathematical can you.

    Give students a voice (and face) with Voki...a terrific way to enable students to share a message using an animated avatar that talks created using their own voice recorded right from their phone.
  • Google Search Stories
    Google Search Stories lets you turn Google Searches into video stories. All you have to do is enter some search terms, pick the music and let YouTube do the rest.
